i was in comedy heaven last night.  i went to see chris rock at the theatre at msg.  the show was hysterical.  he was up there for two hours, no break, no water, joke after joke.  my face hurt so much from laughing.  however the best part of the night was all the people in the audience.  our seats were the first row of the second section, so to get into the first section you had to walk two feet in front of me.  while the opening act was on a guy walks past with puffy hair, glasses, and i could only see his profile in the dark but i knew it was jerry seinfeld.  so the opening act is done and the lights go on for a 20 minute break.  and sure enough jerry seinfeld comes walking up the aisle from the front section right freakin in front of me.

THEN!  i look over to see tina fey and amy poehler asking the usher in front of my seat for help.  i actually noticed tina's husband before her or amy lol.  sadly will arnett was not with them.  i want to be friends with them.  i want tina to be my mentor.  is that too much to ask?

THEN!  jimmy fallon walks by on the way to his seat.  but before he can get there he sees someone he knows and they stop directly in front of me to hug and chat.  i was dumbfounded.

THEN!  isaiah thomas walks by and goes backstage (maybe to threaten chris not to do any jokes about him?).  this was when the guy sitting behind us leans down and says "i'm not the only one seeing all this am i?"  it was funny cause i was thinking the same thing.

after the show we went outside to get some air before our train and see jerry seinfeld walking out some private exit and said hi, he said hi back.  very friendly .  i can't believe i didn't event think of bringing my camera with me.  stupid holly.

well i'm off to bed.  i have to rock the station early tomorrow.

3/5/08 08:49 pm

i got bored last night and revamped my layout.  nothing fancy just a simple layout with some splatter.  i enjoy it for now.  represent the RXP colors.  speaking of RXP you can now stream us on the web.  it didn't go public yet, but just click on the headphones, www.1019rxp.com.  i really love the new format and i'm not just saying that cause i work there.  currently on the station in between songs they have people talking about their favorite ny rock experience, and they want us kids in promotions to record our own.  i'm excited to do it, but i have to make sure i don't sound stupid cause they play them a lot!  i have to sound cool.

i've been in farmingdale more than anyone needs to be in the past few weeks.  that's where we're getting all our new merch from so corey and i have been going out there to pick stuff up.  the guy we were picking stuff up from today called to see where we were and told us "our street is right past an amusement park"  ummm...just say adventureland, who from long island doesn't know adventureland??  it's a place of childrens' dreams.  my sister, my cousin, and i make an awesome video at adventureland of us lip-synching "pump up the jam."  it's one of those tapes that you would immediately put under lock and key (or a lock box if you will) if you ever became famous, aka it's one awesome video!  kick ass special effects, white keds with neon socks, and i am wearing one of those b.u.m. short shirt sets that changed color when you went in the sun.  did i mention it's an awesome video?

i saw donna murphy on the 1 on my way home today.  you may know her as juliette simone from "centerstage", you may not.  centerstage is one of my favorite movies, obviously for the dancing, not the acting.  when i saw her i immediately thought of her speech about the ballet bar being your home .  i should have asked her to recite it for me.  lost opportunity.  but then i thought of me and stephanie at musical rehearsal saying cooper's line "i don't give a shit what you want, you're a dancer, you do what i want..."  and i began to laugh.  i have a problem with laughing at my own thoughts in public places.

2/5/08 09:58 pm - r.i.p. smooth jazz

as of 4pm today smooth jazz is no longer.  101.9 switched formats today, we are now WRXP new york's rock experience.  i'm excited (as long as i get to keep my job...).  i was on my way to my other job and put on 101.9 and U2 was playing, so i start singing along to "angel of harlem" then like a minute into it i realize i just put on smooth jazz and they're playing U2.  then the jock comes on and is talking about how they're a brand new station and they just started airing about 45 minutes ago.  i was worried, called my boss and she's like "yeah today at 4 we changed formats"  she was kinda casual about it lol.  tomorrow i'm driving all over long island and queens to promote our new format.

the new music is pretty awesome.  it's a mix of classic rock and new rock.   from yahoo:
The New York Rock Experience. "101.9 RXP" represents a new Adult Rock station in the New York tri-state market which merges New Music, Classic Rock, Alternative & Local Rock into a new adult blend called "The New York Rock Experience." 101.9 RXP will feature a variety of rock from artists like Franz Ferdinand, Bruce Springsteen, Nirvana, Coldplay, U2, Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews, The Police, Beck, Radiohead, The Who, Oasis, Arcade Fire, Social Distortion and REM ... a playlist not determined by era, but rather by the acoustic quality of each song, as determined directly by on-air personalities and staff.

so yeah, all the music i love.  was never really a huge fan of smooth jazz, but i'm a lover of music and it was something different for me.  however listening to this new format all day was great, loved every song they played while i was at work.  i wonder if muse is included in the new music library, god i hope so.  crap, i also hope i still get to go into the studio for an hour a day.  ahhh i wonder what kind of contests we're doing.  hopefully giving away tickets to shows i would want to see.  ahhhh so excited, did i mention that?  i guess i'll find out more tomorrow.

oh and our new logo is orange and black.  carey high school represent!  go hawks!  good thing i have tons of orange accessories.

now i'm off to watch the entire disc of special features for Across the Universe.  i want a jude from liverpool, if only just to listen to him talk all day long.

1/30/08 08:33 pm

the boys of making the band 4 were at the station today.  on a normal day i would have missed them, but i got on an express train today cause it was a few minutes late and i was a few minutes early to the train station so i hopped on.  i arrived at work around 8:20 and immediately when i walk in the door i spot donnie standing by security (the little white boy really stands out in the group).  then i see the rest of the guys as they walk towards the elevators.  and there's only one elevator that goes up to our floor so i swipe my keycard with lightening speed and try to catch the one they're on.  i got there with enough time but they had the whole mtv crew with them so there wasn't enough room in the elevator.

its strange that they were there today cause i was watching the marathon of them this weekend.  i didn't even really watch their season but was strangely excited to see them haha.  even without trying i've probably seen every episode.  oh mtv how i love/hate all your reruns.

anyway, donnie is adorable, and i can't believe i think that cause he's got the long island italian boy blowout going on a little bit, but nice looking non the less.

oooooo a commercial for across the universe on dvd the 5th.  exciting!

i've been in a big *nsync mood lately, their music just makes me so freakin happy, it's crazy.

getting back to my starbucks name.  well it's officially "sunday" and the people who work in the penn starbucks even know me now...and call me sunday.  i think it's really funny.  and sunday now has a last name cause i figured she needed one.  it's mckay, sunday mckay.  nice right?  it's not as great as regina phalange or anastasia beaverhousen, but i like it.  it's fun to have an alias, everyone should look into it.

and i'm done.

hmk
(oh crap i just realized sunday now needs a middle name)

12/20/07 07:56 pm

the other day the head of my department for all three stations was walking around the office dressed as santa carrying a baseball bat.  turns out they were filming this little piece of holiday fun.

needless to say i love working in the entertainment industry.  happy holidays from emmis communications!

12/19/07 04:08 pm

while waiting for a track to be posted for my train home today i had a very funny celebrity (kinda) sighting.  Michael Lohan, father of Lindsay.  he walked off track 18, i was stading by the board, he totally saw me staring at him and laughing to myself a little.

and keeping with the kinda celeb theme...jamie lynn spears is pregnant in case you didn't know.  yeah she's 16.  i was all over ONTD when they broke the story, it kinda killed livejournal for a bit.  just thinking about myself at 16 and imagining having a baby is freaky.  unless i had managed to actually get into nsync's hotel and one of them knocked me up.  i probably would have been totally ok with that.  kids...

i'm off to do a little more christmas shopping.  don't anyone get pregnant while i'm gone.

12/3/07 05:45 pm - crystal

our 10am - 3pm on air jock at the station, deborah rath, thinks my name is crystal.  normally this wouldn't be such a big deal, oh someone in the office doesn't know my name, who cares it's a big office.  but every day from 10-10:30 i sit in the studio with her to answer the phones during our trip a day giveaway contest.  just me and her alone in the studio...deborah and crystal.  at first i didn't realize she thought my name was crystal because there was always someone else in the room with us so i thought her name was crystal.  but no, crystal is me.  it doesn't even sound like holly so i don't know where she got it from.  so everyday when i walk out of the studio she says "ok see you tomorrow crystal!"  and i respond "yep see you tomorrow!"  and then i have my own private chuckle as i walk back to my desk.

i'm in too deep here.  i don't know how to correct this so i'm just going with it.  i literally crack myself up everytime i think about it.  what am i gonna say if she finally realizes she's calling me the wrong name??  i've been in the studio with her now for a few weeks, totally in too deep.  maybe if she's at the christmas party i'll have a drink or two and just tell her.  or i could just walk into the studio tomorrow with a nametag.  whichever.

it's totally like the episode of friends where chris parnell thinks chandler's name is toby.  i'm toby!!  however i hope this doesn't end with me trashing my own desk, i don't know if i could take it that far.

anyway i think i'm going to ask for this for christmas.

MARC BY MARC JACOBS Pavé Crystal Watch Necklace

the one on the left, or the black one.  i just can't decide but i'm leaning towards the bronze one.  cause i kinda need a watch, but bracelets annoy me when i'm at work and typing and stuff so a watch necklace combo would be nice.

MARC BY MARC JACOBS Cut Fruit Bauble Necklace Watch

that one's also adorable, and half the price so we'll see.  i have to go try them on.  or if anyone reading this wants to get me all the marc jacobs watch necklace combos i'd be ok with that.  maybe my BFFL deborah will get me one and get "crystal" engraved on the back.

ps - i love december in nyc.

11/19/07 05:20 pm - life on the one

a man on the train home today really stepped over the line of train etiquette. first of all, off peak train=plenty of seats=walk back and find one for yourself creepy man! but no, he sits down next to me in a two seat row. this might not have been a problem on an old train, but the new ones are more narrow. so he starts moving around and then asks if it's ok for him to put his arm up on the headrest to get a little more room. i say ok. but apparently "up on the headrest" means "around your shoulder" wtf!?!? but i think he could sense my extreme discomfort so he moved, only to then rest his elbow on my shoulder. are you kidding me?? that's better?? then i swear he played with one of my curls for a second. creepy...just creepy. then he starts talking to me, perfect. what do you do? school or work? you live in new york? i gave grumbled answers to all of these. and i had my headphones on! isn't that the universal sign of "I DON'T WANT TO MAKE SMALL TALK WITH YOU!"? then he gave me the info on his existence. he's from india, just catching the shuttle to jfk for the flight back home. fascinating. i then pretended forest hills was my stop and headed to another car and found TONS of available seats. (mind you the whole time this is going on i'm thinking "i'm totally going to write an lj update about you mister!")

just in case the woman who sings and plays her guitar in penn station during the day is reading this: knock it off already! haven't you ruined enough songs by singing them three octaves too high? just give it a rest. i would trade her for the guy who does 10 minute versions of "sitting on the dock of the bay" any day.

i've decided to change my starbucks ordering name. on my way to work every morning i get a latte in penn and they're always crowded so they do the calling out your name thing. well, they rarely get holly correct. it always comes out at polly, or alli, or once colleen. so on wednesday it will be a tall soy vanilla latte for hannah. i love that name and it's on the short list if i ever have a daughter so i'm starting with that and then i will be who knows what name. suggestions are welcome. preferably ones i can say without laughing at their ridiculousness.

my christmas tree is up already haha! my mom and i love our tree so much we wanted to put it up early. it's just so pretty.

someone put up a justin timberlake poster in the promotions office. i like. it's a promo poster for his hbo concert (which comes out on dvd soon!) and i enjoy staring at it. oOooOoOOo today i got an email about our office holiday party. it's at a place on 24th st, can't remember the name, open bar 6-10, this could get crazy.

ok i think that's enough randomness for one post. peace.

8/22/07 09:44 pm - it's just a fact

went to my cousin's grad / 18th birthday party this past weekend.  i remember when he was born...i feel really old.  seriously, i held you when you were a baby now i'm watching you and all your friends play beer pong?  old!  they were pretty funny with the beer pong though.  once all the adults went in the house they took over 3 tables and had a little tourney going on.  and i don't know if they did this on purpose, but every table had different color cups, it was quite organized lol.  and then the highlight of the party was when my cousin jumped off the bridge.  haha i guess i should clarify that.  they live on a canal and there's a birdge at the end of their block so he jumped off the bridge then swam back to the dock.  it seems like every party we have there during the summer starts off with, "who can we get to jump off the bridge tonight...?"

oh and on the way to the party my car broke down.  he's getting fixed now, my poor little lawrence.

the other night i was doing some late night internetting and ended up ordering the *nsync at madison square garden dvd from amazon.  it came today, amazingness.  totally proud that i still know justin's beatbox solo.

going out the riverhead tomorrow to outlet shop / visit my grandparents.  should be a good day.

i'm sick of my job.  someone help me find a new one.  preferably something awesome.  thanks you're the best.

ooo top chef just started.  peace.

7/6/07 02:08 pm

was at the hospital last night for a good 8 hours.  but for a very good cause.  candace was having a baby girl!  7lbs 9oz, 21 inches, baby model.  we were probably the rowdiest group of people to have ever waited in "the new life center" as they call it.  she was a c-section cause the cord was wrapped around her neck twice, but they're both good now.  she looks just like her big brother when he was born, oh except he was yellow (jaudis baby as i like to call him) and she was blue.  crazy night, finally got to bed around 5am after getting home to see the paper had already been delivered and the birds were chirping.

also had a big job interview yesterday at a radio station.  i'll know next week.  fingers crossed!

5/26/07 06:46 pm - hot child in the city (garden city of course)

want to know how hot it is in my room?  so hot that i just carried my air conditioner all the way up from the basement all by myself.  that's how hot.  oh and incase you didn't know, my room is on the second floor.  my room is notorious for being the hottest in the house, it's really special.  and my parents are in vermont for the weekend, so i had no choice but to bring it up myself.  i'm quite proud of myself at the moment.

sleeping last night reminded me of trying to sleep during the big blackout a few years ago.  just sprawled out on my bed, no covers, all windows open, and of course no breeze.  very pleasant.

so now i'm off to take a cold shower while the upstairs cools off.  peace.

5/14/07 01:33 pm - life update at it's finest

i left my people magazine on one of the tables at work today while i was in the kitchen.  the magazine was opened to the crossword puzzle, i had my pen sitting there, and my iced tea was on the table.  well, a customer came in and decided to do my crossword puzzle.  i don't like that.  i enjoy my puzzles.  i could understand if the magazine was just sitting there and she flipped through and decided to do it, but i had already finished half of it and my pen was holding my page.  bitch.  stupid old lady with a cane.  she almost got a swift kick to her bum leg.  just kidding....  but people do that all the time.  i enjoy doing many kinds of puzzles while it's slow at work and i've already stocked everything in the kitchen.  last week i had started a sudoku, then someone came in and started working on it, and messed it up!!  wtf??  i think that man should have bought me a new daily news.  bastard.  needless to say, don't mess with my puzzles.  or texas.

in other news last night at work alex and i decided that long island will now be named long.  we're cutting out the island part because we're very upset there are no palm trees or other tropical things here.  so from now on i live in long, new york.  alex was very upset growing up because he had heard about this "long island" place and wanted to go there because it sounded tropical.  but then he found out he lived on long island and was vastly disappointed.  apparently in his mind an island is not somewhere that has squirrels.

i went to tonic east in the city on saturday to celebrate maria, heather, and maureen's birthdays.  it was a lot of fun.  basically a big carey hs reunion with some fordham and delaware people in the mix, so i guess that counts as our 5 year reunion.  it was a lot of fun, very nice place, awesome roof deck.  i left kind of early, but i had a great time.

OH!  and the best news for last.  i had an interview with PostWorks NY the other day.  they're basically the largest post production house on the east coast and their clients include mtv, hbo, nbc...everyone!  i interviewed to be one of their schedulers.  they provide all the equipment and shows and movies send in their editors and rent out space for however long they need it.  it would be the most amazing job.  the guy i interviewed with gave me a tour of the whole place - they have 6 floors of a huge Soho building.  it seemed to go very well.  i really want this job.

i started writing my screenplay again so i think i'm going to go write a little now.  it's so nice out i may even go sit on the deck to write.  peace out.

4/26/07 03:10 pm

i just got back from jury duty.  judging from other stories i'd say it went pretty well.  got there at 8, i was called around 11:30.  the lawyers started asking all the jurors questions like could we be impartial with this kind of a case, blah, blah, blah.  went to lunch at 12:30, came back and the case had been settled!  and now i'm home and don't have to do jury duty for 6 years.  not too shabby.

but the whole time i was there i was cracking myself up inside my head.  for anyone who watches "30 rock" and gets this, all i kept thinking about was "the rural juror."  the ruuuurrr  juuuuurrr.  man that show is great.

2/22/07 12:42 am

the fam went out to dinner on monday for my mom's bday.  on the way home i was going to get a cake so i asked my yiayia if she had any candles at home, she said yes.  so i got a cake and brought it home.  then she brings out the candles.  leftovers from last month when i made a birthday cake for the twins.  the candles once spelled out "happy birthday" but some of them seemed to have been lost, and some no longer has wicks.  yiayia says "oh just use them!  they light, they're fine!"  so i managed to spell out "PTHARPDAH" with the usable ones, followed by another previously used candle, i big "5"  it was definitely the funniest birthday cake i've ever seen.

so PTHARPDAH is my new hip word.  it's really fun to say.  spread it around like wildfire.

2/8/07 04:00 pm

i applied for a job as a casting assistant for a reality show yesterday afternoon on craigslist.  got a call a few hours later, and now just got back from the interview.  that's got to be the shortest period of time between sending in my resume and having an interview ever for me.  but wait, it gets better.  the job listing didn't have the show or the network on it.  i looked up the phone number and it's mtv / vh1.  i get there, it's MY SUPER SWEET 16!  crazy.  i really hope i get this job, i love casting, i love judging people, and most of all i love the ridiculous amounts of money these people waste on parties.

so keep your fingers crossed for me and pray to multiple gods.

in unrelated news i have been getting phone calls on my cell for a few weeks from some school telling me that it's closed or there's a 2 hour delay.  i don't go to school.  i looked up the area code today, and it's SCRANTON, PA.  it's like the school knows how much i love the office and knew i would get a kick out of it.  now i'm less angry at them for waking me up at 5:30 in the morning on several occasions.  phyllis is getting married tonight!  phyllis vance, vance refrigeration.

1/20/07 10:57 pm

i helped clean out the house of a dead man today.  it was $20 an hour, and as my mom put it, i'm a whore for money.  and i am, cause lets face it, that student loan isn't going to pay itself off, am i right??  i just used a lot of commas in those two sentences.  comma whore too i suppose.

it's strange going through the posessions of a dead man.  or at least i think he's dead, i really didn't get the whole story.  but either way he's not living there anymore.  i tried to picture what he was like while i was going through his office.  he had a lot of stuff from the united way, like certificates and plaques.  two very old hole punchers.  an entire room full of every kind of book you can imagine.  nail files all over the place.  pencils all the same length and all sharpened to a perfect point.  a list in his desk from 1974 of things needed for a family trip with everything in its own category.  and a pair of green addidas with yellow stripes.

i think i would have liked this man.  it's weird to say that having never met him.  it was kind of like room raiders, except he's dead (i think) and i'm pretty sure i don't want to date him.  also, there was no use of a black light.  but he shared my love for brightly colored sneakers and that's really all i need.

11/14/06 11:14 pm

on my way home from work i saw a minivan with a body kit. oh long island...

11/4/06 10:14 pm

went to the city on thursday with kelvin. we had planned on going to his roomate’s show, but it was full. plan b, chorus line lottery. and I WON!! "i’m holly kadetz!!" why can’t anyone ever pronounce my last name right? it has an l between the d and e bitches. anyway, had some time before the show so we went to kelvin’s place of employment, bubba gumps, for dinner. they have some good food. and i totally kick everyone’s ass at forrest gump trivia, it’s just a fact.

then off to see a chorus line. it was really good. the girl who plays maggie is amazing, such a great voice. the show made me want to audition for something haha. after the show we decided to walk to radio city and walked around 30 rock where we met up with kelvin’s roommate and walked to the carnegie deli for some amazing cheesecake.

it was pretty late so we headed back to penn where two of the funniest parts of the night happened. first, kelvin goes to the bathroom and as he’s walking in i hear him go "ok no..." and runs out. the man in front of him had thrown up into his hands. classy. and second, a drunk asian businessman, on the phone crying, holding a crunchy taco in the other hand, gesturing with the taco. he had a bag of tacos hanging on his wrist, taco in hand, phone in other hand, and then attempted to put hot sauce on the taco. i died. kinda felt bad for laughing, but he’ll never know.

10/10/06 12:18 am

why did chris farley have to die?  because, perfect snl skit?  mark foley, meet your long lost brother matt foley, motivational speaker.  they would be forced to live together in a van down by the river and live off a steady diet of government cheese.  this entire scandle was made for snl parody.  it would have been grand.

in other news i recieved my first jury summons.  and i gotta tell you, i'm stoked.  for the week of october 30th i have to call and see if i'm needed.  i'm kind of hoping i get to be on a trial.  i'm all about performing my civic duties.

oh and i am apparently also a founding director of kelvin's new non-profit organization.  it's a pretty cool idea.  i hope he didn't actually make me sign my life away to him.

peace.
